MEMORIAL GARDEN

Initial Public Art Project - Community consultation "Reminiscing Childhood Memories"

  • The Bank Row Bomb Site will be transformed into a garden in memory of the 21 civilians, 10 of whom were children, who were killed on July 2nd 1940 in the first dayling bombing on mainland Britian.

  • The initial project was based on oral history and the creation of artworks by all sections of the community.

  • Training Phase Begins - The garden site will be used from June - Dec 2006 to promote the training in traditional building methods which will result in the repair of the old smoke house building and the creation of dry stone walls within the garden.

  • The Second Training Phase was carried out in 2006 to promote the training in traditional building methods which will result in the repair of the old smoke house building. This improved the future enclosure of the garden dealing with safety concerns on two of the three boundaries requiring attention.

  • The Third Phase may involve the transfer of the adjoining non repaired building to another organisation to allow the final setting out of the landscaped areas.
