THE SEVEN GATES
In July 2006, “The Seven Gates” were officially unveiled by Wick Gala Queen Chloe Bunch. Artists Sue Jane Taylor, Liz O’Donnell and Swanson helped more than 160 pupils from Wick High and the town’s four primary schools develop their ideas and arrive at the series of final designs.
They had been inspired by tales of folklore and local history as retold by members of the Wick Society and the final art piece was put together by local master craftsman Ian Sinclair using sheet metal techniques.
The collective artwork , The Seven Gates at Wick, are individually named “Port of the North”, “Superstitions”, “Ancient Myths”, “Roond ai Harbour”, “The Big Storm”, “The Pheonix” and “Scorries”
