HERITAGE EDGE
Two Projects link to tell the story of the past, The Heritage Edge project looks at the public realm within the THI area and links it with a heritage trail out past the old life boat station and the ill fated Stevenson breakwater to the quarries that provided the stone.
Thomas Telford, L.S. Lowry, and Robert Louis Stevenson all have left their mark on the heritage of the town.
Elements of the THI Heritage Edge Project which receive funding from THC, HIE C&S, HLF and EU (EAGGF) include:
- The restoration of the Black Stairs linking Lower and Upper Pulteneytown and recognition of L.S Lowry's 1937 painting "The Black Steps";
- The enhancement of the harbour fishermen's stone vaulted stores with the fitting of "The Seven Gates"
- The footway trail, with engraved flagstones, that links the Heritage museum to the Harbour and the wider reinstatement of flagstone and street lighting.
