HISTORY AND PROGRESS

The THI Heritage Lottery Fund award of £1.19M was confirmeded in December 2002 and the THI officially launched 11th March 2003 on the bi-centennial of the original agreement to buy the land to build the original town.

  • Project 1 - 10 houses and 6 flats for rent by Pentland Housing Association commenced April 2003, completed May 2004.


  • Public Realm - All four primary schools in Wick along with High school students were involved in the design of images that were incorporated into the design of the "Seven Gates" which were fitted to the vaulted fisherman's store adjoining the harbour, completed in 2006. The public realm works which also including the relaying of flagstone footways and the replacement of street lighting will be complete from Spring 2008.


  • 2004 - also saw completion of new offices in Telford House.


  • 2005 - Saw completion of the repairs to the Black Stairs.


  • 2006 - January saw the opening of the Family Centre.


  • 2006-7 - 2007 saw the conversion of the Robertson of Tain building on Williams St between Rose St and Saltoun St in to 5 houses, the conversion of properties on the corner of Miller St and Saltoun St into one corner office, 2 maisonettes and one flat. There have been 5 other smaller individual repair schemes.
